SMART FILM
SMART GLASS
Smart film is a type of film that can change its opacity or transparency when an electrical current is applied. It is also known as switchable film, PDLC film (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal film) or privacy film.
When electricity is applied to the film, the liquid crystals within the film align to allow light to pass through, making the film transparent. When the current is switched off, the liquid crystals scatter the light and the film becomes opaque. This makes it a great option for privacy, security, and energy efficiency in buildings.
Smart film can be applied to windows, skylights, and other glass surfaces, allowing the user to control the level of privacy and light transmission with the flip of a switch, a remote control, or even a smartphone app. It can also be used in car windows, conference rooms, and hospitals to create privacy on demand.
HOW SMART FILM & SMART GLASS WORKS?
Smart film and glass work by using a technology called PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) or SPD (Suspension Polymerization Display) to control the transmission of light through a glass surface.
PDLC smart film consists of two layers of transparent conductive film, which sandwich a layer of liquid crystals dispersed in a polymer matrix. The liquid crystals are randomly oriented when the film is not powered, causing the film to appear opaque or frosted. When an electrical current is applied, the liquid crystals align and the film becomes clear or transparent, allowing light to pass through.
Both smart film and glass can be controlled with a switch, remote control, or smartphone app, allowing the user to adjust the level of privacy and light transmission as needed. Smart glass and film are becoming increasingly popular in applications such as privacy windows, conference rooms, and automotive windows, as they offer convenience, energy efficiency, and enhanced security.
SMART FILM:
- A film that can be applied to existing glass surfaces
- Offers a higher level of opacity or privacy
- Can be thicker and more densely packed with liquid crystals
- More flexible and can be easily removed and replaced
- A cost-effective option for retrofitting existing windows
SMART GLASS:
- A glass panel that has the smart technology embedded directly into the glass
- Has a clearer, more uniform appearance in its transparent state
- A more permanent solution and cannot be easily removed or replaced
- Ideal for new construction or for applications where a permanent solution is required
- Can change its opacity or transparency with the application of an electrical current.
KEY FEATURES OF SMART FILM:
- Privacy control: Smart films can provide instant privacy on demand by switching from transparent to opaque, making them ideal for use in conference rooms, medical facilities, residential areas, and other applications where privacy is important.
- Light control: Smart films can regulate the amount of light entering a room, reducing glare and heat and improving energy efficiency. They can be used to block out harmful UV rays, protecting furniture and other valuables from sun damage.
- Flexible application: Smart films can be applied to any glass surface, making them a cost-effective option for retrofitting existing windows. They can also be customized to fit any size or shape of glass.
- Easy control: Smart films can be controlled using a switch, remote control, or smartphone app, allowing for convenient adjustment of privacy and light transmission.
- Energy savings: Smart films can reduce the need for air conditioning or heating, improving energy efficiency and reducing utility costs.
- Maintenance: Smart films are easy to clean and maintain, and can be easily removed and replaced if needed.
- Customization: Smart films can be customized with patterns, colors, and designs to create a unique and personalized look.
